Agios Thomas Beach Kefalonia

2 minutes to read

The Agios Thomas Beach, we find it in the southwestern part of Kefalonia about a couple of kilometers from the picturesque Karavados village and about fifteen kilometers from the capital Argostoli.

Karavados is the closest town to Agios Thomas beach and a stop can be a pleasant moment. A tidy country here is the right adjective, where houses and streets are all perfect. The main source is fishing, most of its inhabitants work in the sea, some as fishermen and some as sailors. In the center of the village an iron anchor dedicated to the lost sailors and a beautiful church with a dark red color with white details with characteristics of the Venetian style where inside there is a unique marble temple. Obviously, there is also a traditional tavern where you can stop and taste local delicacies.

But let's come to our beach, which in reality is not just one but two, a small one and a larger one both in this beautiful bay surrounded by lush vegetation and rock formations that shelter it from the winds separated from each other by rocks and stone slabs that as if by magic they emerge from the sea. The first very small coastline has a soft tongue of yellowish sand bathed by clear and clean waters, with a sea that goes from light blue to turquoise. It is not equipped but if you want to shelter from the sun there is a sort of canopy of palm trees on a rock ledge.

The second instead, which can be reached by a path or by passing the rocky slab, is wider and also offers a beach of soft sand with some rocks scattered here and there, transparent and warm waters with a bottom that descends slowly, perfect for families with children. It is equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas while for a drink or something to eat a small tavern offers traditional Greek dishes rather than quick snacks, all while contemplating the sea.

The Agios Thomas beach or rather the beaches, are ideal for snorkelers and scuba divers as they are rich in underwater caves and a lively fish fauna and flora as well as underwater islets to explore and discover.

A small church that gives the beach its name is found where there is a large square that we recommend you use to leave your vehicle as the more 'you go down, the more' the road becomes narrow and difficult if there are two cars in directions opposite. The distance is really negligible we are talking about a hundred meters to do on foot. From the parking lot, if you go to the right, you will find rock formations that descend towards the sea form a stream where small cleaner fish like to stay, an excellent opportunity for a natural and free exfoliation treatment. A diving platform and small paths are an added value to Agios Thomas beach for an alternative to simple idleness under the warm rays of the sun.

How to get to Agios Thomas Beach

Heading southwest, keep the village of Karavados as your reference point and follow the road straight to the beach car park. It is very simple just follow the road signs and in no time you will be there.

A fantastic day to spend between sun and sea in a very pleasant natural context and only for this reason to be put among the things to see in Kefalonia.
