Bochali Village Zakynthos

2 minutes to read

Bochali village, is a small village barricaded right above a promontory behind the Zakynthos Town in the south east of this beautiful island.

It is the classic Greek mountain village, made up of rare houses as very few people live there, small and narrow streets embellished with colorful bougainvillea and fragrant jasmine plants, some excellent taverns for a romantic dinner and a view to leave you speechless.

From here the view is like a postcard, you can see the beautiful Zakynthos Town and its beautiful bay,Argassi Town, the majestic Ionian Sea and on particularly clear days you can see the Peloponnese Coasts, the distant Laganas Gulf and the whole island at 360 degrees, in short, a real overview of Zakynthos from above. The most beautiful moment in our opinion is at sunset or at night when in the first case the sky and the sea take on the warm colors of red, orange and purple joining in a tender embrace, while at night with deep darkness you can '' admire the perspective of the city and the bay illuminated by the evening lights. Dawn is also a magical moment but it means getting up very early, if you feel like it for sure you won't regret it, guaranteed!

In spite of its small size, Bochali village boasts historical and artistic beauties such as the church of Zoodos Pigi an ancient chapel where precious icons of the Byzantine period are preserved inside, and the remains of the Venetian castle immersed in a luxuriant Pine forest. In reality, very few finds remain apart from a few traces of the walls restored in the seventies as with the terrible earthquake of 1953 almost everything was destroyed. It should be emphasized, however, that through some excavations in 1984 the ruins of churches of the eleventh and eighteenth centuries have come to light and according to some old writings and maps in this area there was an ancient medieval center with a castle, prisons, a library, the hospital and the governor's palace which unfortunately are no longer visible today.

How to get to Bochali Village

It is very easy to get to Bochali village you can choose two ways. The easiest and fastest way with a vehicle, keeping the sea on the right side, after the capital you will find an internal uphill road, at the first intersection turn left continuing to the top and you will be there. Remember that Bochali is very small and there is very little parking so do your evaluations on how to reach it. The second way is on foot with a beautiful walk. From Solomos Square, a panoramic uphill road starts which will take you to Bochali in half an hour. We recommend that if you decide for the picnic to leave early in the morning so as to avoid the sun peaking over your head and do not forget to bring some water to rehydrate during the climb.

A gem to be included in the list of things to see in Zakynthos that you can very well combine with a visit to Zante City that will allow you to have a panoramic view of this beautiful area rich in history, charm and extraordinary natural beauty.
