Dafni Beach Zakynthos

Another beautiful beach to put on the list of things to see in Zakynthos, Dafni beach or Daphe beach as it is also called.

We find it in the Vassilikos area to the southeast after the other beautiful beach of Kalamaki and both are part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos and the Gulf of Turtles. The whole area is protected as the now endangered species of Caretta-Caretta turtles have chosen these coasts to deposit their eggs and give continuity to their life cycle. Rangers and volunteers are constantly patrolling to safeguard these prehistoric animals and will be happy to give you any information about it.

Dafni beach has a long and wide beach of soft golden sand, bathed by a sea of iridescent colors ranging from turquoise to blue and extremely clean and crystalline waters with a unique peculiarity in the whole island, are among the warmer and even reach 30 degrees. The sandy bottom drops gently and is ideal for those who love long swims and for children. Being a protected area it is possible to stay there until sunset and get there only an hour after sunrise so as to leave the turtles calm.

Enclosed by two scenic rocky ends, it is about half of it equipped with sun beds and umbrellas and behind it a wide choice of bars, typical taverns where you can relax and taste the dishes of Greek cuisine. Absolute ban on water sports so as not to disturb the animals but you can, however, armed with fins and mask, have fun snorkeling given the multitude of marine creatures present. The other part of the beach is completely closed to the public, especially where there are turtle nests that are clearly visible and covered.

Definitely off the tourist trail due to limitations, it still remains one of the most beautiful on the island and it will be fascinating to go there especially for families with children where the little ones can perhaps witness the hatching of eggs and see these cute little animals live with an incredible instinct to move towards their natural element.

The landscape from the beach of Dafni is incredible, you can admire the entire Gulf of Laganas and the small islet of Pelouzo, a true paradise that can only be reached by swimming with a sandy beach like talcum powder that is very reminiscent of the Caribbean.

You have to go up to the promontory of Vassilikos and then in the extreme south-east direction of Zakynthos. You arrive not directly on the beach, but where there are bars and taverns there is a parking lot where you can leave your vehicle and then either continue on foot or if you leave your car or scooter in other parking lots further away, there is a free van that will take you to your destination.

It should be noted that about three kilometers from a dirt road you can reach other beaches such as the beach of Gerakas, the beach of Banana, the beach of Agios Nicolaos, Porto Roma, Porto Zoro and the beach of Kaminia.

A quiet, intact place where you can come into direct contact with the turtles and if you are lucky, you will also be able to participate in their birth, a priceless memory for young and old.
