Kalamaki Beach Zakynthos

The beautiful Kalamaki beach is found in the south east of the Zakyntho island in the bay of Laganas which is just three kilometers away while Zakynthos Town is about ten kilometers away.

A perfect area for families as it is very quiet and perfect for a relaxing holiday in Greece. It is part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos and is considered a protected area as it is home to the Caretta-Caretta turtles who have chosen it for nesting and the continuation of the now almost endangered species.

A long coast of fine golden sand, warm, with many shells, surrounded by imposing rocky stacks that hold it in a protective embrace, bathed by a calm, crystalline sea with crazy colors and with seabed that descend slowly, ideal for families with children and for lovers of long swims. The first stretch is the one where swimming is allowed, there are sunbeds and umbrellas for about € 8 per day and refreshment points such as beach bars or typical taverns where to eat or drink something. Marine activities are limited in order not to disturb the animals but you can still venture out with a pedal boat or a canoe to explore the surroundings and maybe if you are lucky to spot some specimens of turtle that free wallows in their natural environment.

The rules of conduct within the protected sector are very strict and access is limited, but the Marine Park guards are always available to give you information to learn more about the kingdom of turtles and to indicate the most suitable attitudes in case you encounter any animals.

Kalamaki beach is separated from nearby Laganas by a large and lush pine forest that extends for most of its surface onto the main road where the homonymous village is located. Once a small village, in recent years it has expanded a lot but always respecting the surrounding nature and several accommodation facilities have sprung up such as hotels, restaurants, or taverns where you can enjoy excellent cuisine based on fresh products and tradition Greek.

At the beginning of the beach you can freely enjoy the perfectly equipped beach and bask in the warm sun of Zakynthos even if during the summer it is quite crowded, while towards the end it can be reached with a pleasant walk right where the mountain seems to fall by magic. inside the sea it is completely free and it can happen to be alone even in high season. At this point the sea is even cleaner and clearer with very warm waters. Also in this stretch the hours of access are always limited for the protection of prehistoric reptiles. If, on the other hand, you take the opposite direction, that is towards Laganas, you will come across the perfect large pine forest during the hottest hours.

The best time to visit Kalamki beach is definitely the sunset. The sky and the sea take on warm colors that go from orange to red to pink, creating settings worthy of a Turner painting.

The small village behind it is definitely to choose to stay if you love the sea and walks. Here everything is peaceful and in total harmony with Mother Nature, however, without excluding all the major comforts that do not spoil the territory and manage to live together without disturbing each other.

It is very simple and you can do it in two ways. The first, the most comfortable and fast, is through a rental vehicle. Keep Laganas as a reference point and proceed east. If you are staying in Laganas instead, you can also take a wonderful walk through the pine forest and immerse yourself completely in the beautiful nature of the island.

A day at Kalamaki beach is a must and to be noted among the things to do in Zakynthos especially if you have children both for the beauty of the coast and to learn something more about the life of turtles and who knows that you will also be able to witness the miracle of their birth.
