Porto Vromi Zakynthos

2 minutes to read

Zakynthos is full of picturesque fjords unusual for the Greek Islands and one of these is Porto Vromi, very close to the famous Navagio Beach in the north west of the island about forty kilometers from the capital Zante Town.

A beautiful forked bay where on the right side there is a small beach with a sandy shore and small pebbles washed by an aquamarine sea with clear and transparent waters. On the sides, mountains of light gray rocks dotted with Mediterranean scrub which together with the other colors of the landscape make the place idyllic, almost surreal and which also acts as a port. The seabed is immediately deep so not really suitable for families with children who must be well supervised when they approach the shore. Ideal instead for swimming lovers and snorkelers who will find here a real amusement park for its beautiful hidden coves and respectable marine fauna and flora.

Porto Vromi is known above all because the boats depart from here to the beach of the Wreck, the most famous and photographed in the world, which is about half an hour away by boat or to the beautiful Blue Cave, another wonderful place in Zakynthos. A beach "in transit" mainly but where you can also enjoy a wonderful day at sea. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas but given the small size it is not that there are many so it would be better to get there early in the morning to be able to settle in comfort. A bar for something quick to eat and drink, a small tavern where you can sit, enjoy the local specialties of Greek cuisine and the possibility of renting a pedal boat, dinghies and small boats to explore the mysterious caves of the surroundings independently. There is also a sort of springboard where you can have fun in acrobatic dives.

If you want to be a little discovery, you could visit the small caves around the fjord and the bizarre sculptures modeled by atmospheric events such as "the profile of Poseidon" a large figure on the right wall at the entrance of one of the caves that takes shape but 'only if seen from a certain angle, or the footprint of Maria Magdalena on the stone when she arrived by boat in Porto Vromi to spread Christianity on the island (here we advise you to be accompanied or explained well by a local to be able to see them).

The best view on Porto Vromi as well as on the Shipwreck Beach, however, is always from above. The bay that is divided between the clear cliffs covered with vegetation and the Ionian Sea with its particular color that forcefully insinuates itself between the rocks, is a real delight for the eyes and an excellent "model" to take the perfect photo.

How to reach Porto Vromi

Here too it is necessary to be independent with a rental vehicle or to always take a taxi privately that you can also share, there are no other alternatives. So north-west along a road that is all up and down that offers unforgettable views up to the picturesque port of Vromi.

An almost obligatory visit to be included in the things to see in Zakynthos, perhaps even putting together an excursion to the Shipwreck beach to enjoy breathtaking views that will remain forever in your mind and heart.
