Donkey Beach

Donkey beach, we find it on the east coast of the beautiful Zakynthos Island more or less halfway to just one kilometer from the lively seaside Tsilivi village with its large beach much sought after for a holiday in Zakynthos separated only by a small hill. The capital Zante Town is eight kilometers to the south.

An area belonging to the community of Planou and the other to the community of Tragaki, has an amphitheater shape and has a not very large coastline made of soft golden sand with the presence here and there of a few small pebbles, crystalline, clear and warm, a blue sea with depths that descend slowly and perfect for lovers of swimming as well as families with children where the little ones can play in total safety while the adults relax as if there were no tomorrow.

Donkey Beach known by the locals as Paralia (beach) Gaidaros which in Greek means "Donkey" owes its name to the fact that it was once very popular with these cute animals that even today sometimes peep out. It has a small port that was used a lot in the past while nowadays it is a simple landing place for the lucky ones who have a private boat and a few fishing boats that are still dedicated to the ancient art of fishing. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas at a cost of € 6/7 per day, a small canteen where you can find something quick to eat and some refreshing drinks as well as a fun beach volleyball court where you can challenge your family or the old and new friends.

DYD lovers, on the other hand, can carve out their own corner on the unequipped part and make themselves comfortable under the trees that line the beach to have a moment of respite during the hottest hours of the day.

Donkey beach is the right place (perhaps a little less during the high season) for moments of absolute relaxation and tranquility without giving up an enchanting sea.

However, if you want even more privacy and definitely zero confusion, just two hundred meters before the small port, there is a path that will take you to another small beach hidden by a large rock where if you arrive first you can conquer and spend hours in absolute rest and away from everyone.

Nothing could be easier, better as always to have a rental vehicle so as to manage the day in the best way, perhaps combining it with other places to see such as Tsilivi beach.

East coast direction, keeping the Tsilivi village as a point of reference, follow the paved road and the signs and after a kilometer beyond the village, look at the signs for Donkey Beach and you will have arrived. You can leave your vehicle behind the beach.

For a day based on the excellent sea and where you can rest body and mind, Donakey beach can be a valid alternative, so don't forget to put it among the things to see in Zakynthos.
