Pyrgos Beach Andros

2 minutes to read

Pyrgos Beach, we find it in the north west of the Andros Island in the area of Korthi, about fifteen kilometers from the village of Gavrio and close to two other beautiful beaches, Vlychada beach and Kaminaki beach.

It is considered one of the most virgin and wild of all Andros due to its remote location that offers visitors whole days of pure relaxation and above all privacy. Its name Pyrgos which in Greek means tower, owes it precisely to the pinnacle that dominates the rocky edge of the beach. The tower also called Ostodosia Tower, is part of one of the three castles of the Venetian era on the island. It is the smallest of all and the story goes that Marinos Dandolos (known as Tantalos) a commander of the Republic of Venice in the 13th gifted the fief to his brother Marco and hence his second name Macrotantalo. It is only possible to admire it not to visit it because it is now reduced to a ruin but which still gives and retains its own particular charm.

A small sandy coast, bathed by a sea of iridescent colors that go from blue to turquoise to the typical blue of the Aegean Sea with clean, crystalline and fresh waters, perfect for a refreshing swim during the hottest hours of the day. Rock formations surrounding it creating small coves and ideal for snorkelers who can have fun discovering the seabed.

Obviously, only pure nature is not equipped here, silence broken only by the sound of the sea and lots and lots of peace. If you are lucky you can be alone on the beach and fully enjoy all this magnificence. If you decide to spend the whole day there, remember to bring everything you need, water, food, a good sunscreen and something to shelter you from the sun. Do not forget also mask, snorkel and for those with delicate feet, rock shoes so that you can venture among the rocks.

How to reach Pyrgos Beach

Virtually being close to Vlychada beach, the route is the same. Keeping Gavrio as a reference point, head north on the west side up to the Mermigies village (up to here the road is paved and easy). From here you will begin to descend towards the coast by a dirt road until you reach Pyrgos beach. As always we recommend given the conditions of theroute, have either a 4x4 or a quad.

Naturally seen and considered the place where it is located where there is practically nothing, there are no public services, you must necessarily have a rental vehicle.

A beautiful beach to visit and to include in your travel diary among the things to see in Andros, a small break away from everything to stay in direct contact with the sea, leave behind any thought and enjoy the landscape in total naturalness.
