The Agios Petros Beach, is located in the northern part of Andros on the west side about a couple of kilometers from the Gavrio village as well as the main port of the island.

Considered the largest of all Andros, it has a long coastline of soft golden sand, bathed by clear and clean waters, so much so that it often and willingly earns the Blue Flag, a sea of iridescent colors between blue and turquoise with a seabed that descends gently so much and true that it is a favorite of families with children and lovers of long swims who are unlikely to be bothered by its size.

The name of the beach comes from the St. Peter Tower from the Hellenistic period above the hill that dominates the whole bay. Dating back to the 4th or 3rd century BC, it has a height of about twenty meters with a cylindrical shape and originally had five floors connected between them by a helical staircase. Its purpose was to control traffic at sea and above all to spot pirates or enemies approaching the island. Andros in the past was very rich due to its copper mines which remained in operation until the mid-twentieth century giving it prosperity and strong importance.


How to get to Agios Petros Beach

You can decide to reach Agios Petros beach by choosing between two possibilities. The first with a rental vehicle which can be a car or a scooter. From Gavrio you have to go south from the town following the coastal road that will take you to your destination in less than five minutes. Here you decide where to stop, the coast is very long and offers a lot of choice.

The other is on foot. From Gavrio it is about half an hour's walk but it is certainly a good alternative to discover the surroundings and pay a visit to the tower from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the whole district.
